their new sandbox in the garden Global Citizen Colombia Lena 12 February 2016 0 Comments in Experiences Abroad Vores erfaringer by Borsi My Stay in Colombia The story of Lena Juul Palsdorf Colombia turned out to give so much the people there are very open minded and greets you with open arms I wanted to see more and I didn t want to leave the people I had got to know I never thought I would be going abroad for any other reason than on vacation So when my friend told me that we should spend the summer volunteering somewhere I thought Yeah right never going to happen But the last few years so many things have changed for me made me stronger and forced me to get out of me comfort zone And every time it made me stronger so at some point I thought that I would give AIESEC a chance I hardly new anything and only made sure that somebody could take care of my cats before I signed with AIESEC Honestly I didn t now anything about Colombia before I went besides cocaine kidnappings and Shakira But I still went First of all because I felt secure that AIESEC wouldn t send me somewhere dangerous but also because I wanted to go with an open mind and challenge myself It was weird coming home I had my friend who understood but nobody else could understand I had never been to Latin or South America and I had recently learned some Spanish so all I knew was that I wanted to go somewhere there and that it had to be related somewhat to my bachelor that I m taking in city and environmental planning Time went by and I just couldn t find time to look for projects and it seemed overwhelming but one day I found a project in Colombia about environmental issues with a clean up event and my friend liked it as well The funny part was that we had no preferences about were to go but I had promised my friends and family that I of course wouldn t choose somewhere dangerous like Colombia The first two weeks there were very ambivalent We didn t get what we were promised But all of this made all the EPs very close and we decided not to give up and to get the best out of it The beginning was not how we thought it to be but the stay the experience and the people made it all wonderful in the end It s impossible to describe in words how it feels and what it meant I was even so lucky that due to all the circumstances my wonderful EP manager who had helped us through the tough start made sure that we could travel the last week or so after the event This meant that we also got to see other wonderful parts of Colombia and to meet even more people I did learn something professional but I got so much more out of it on a personal level than I could ever imagine Time went by so fast in the end I was forced to speak Spanish when I was alone because almost nobody speaks English in Bogotá and most of Colombia so my Spanish got a little better Every day I was forced to think outside the box and challenge myself in every way managing a team working with people with different backgrounds and personalities living in a country so different from what I was used to and the very different culture AIESEC AAU Hall of Fame Sara Kjærsgaard 12 February 2016 0 Comments in Vores aftryk i Danmark by Borsi I found out about AIESEC and decided to sign up When I got in I was so excited that I wanted to start working right away Hey there So twice a year AIESEC Denmark goes through even more excitements than usual as we start head hunting the next pool of talents who wish to make an impact on the Danish society and the world Apart from the long hours of preparations the many friends who stop talking to us while we try to make them come to the info meetings and the sceptical looks we get there s also the sense of achievement when you get a person to start listening to you And then the reward when you find the right person In this post AIESEC AAU would like to introduce you Sara one of our promising young member who as a Dane stepped out of her comfort zone and said yes to a whole new mindset Sara taking selfies like a true AIESECer I grew up in a typical Danish family in a small village in the middle of nowhere I went to high school and then to university everything right on track with getting a great career however I didn t do much outside my school work even though I had enough spare time I found out about AIESEC and decided to sign up When I got in I was so excited and I wanted to start working right away It s absolutely wonderful for me to be in AIESEC especially since it has given me the chance to meet some amazing individuals The first step in being a member in AIESEC is that you attend a local training seminar which for me was an absolutely amazing experience I got to know all my new fellow members and I was also taught a lot about how AIESEC works The real work began with the first weekly meeting in iGCDP which is the functional area I was assigned The best experiences I ve had during my time in AIESEC have been my conferences so far I ve attended two as a delegate and one as an organising committee member It s absolutely wonderful for me to be in AIESEC especially since it has given me the chance to meet

chance to taste lots of special Vietnamese food like Vietnamese spring roll and bream Nearly the end of the project I joined the global village event and farewell party A bit about my experience Overall my impression of AIESEC is very positive I believe it is helpful in assisting people to develop their global thinking and leadership Since some interns of S E P are the member of AIESEC of their local countries they shown comprehensive thinking and excellent local public speaking during the discussion and workshops Therefore without a doubt I would recommend AIESEC to my friends I feel after the project I found out that my public speaking skills haven been sharpened and understood how to organise an effective workshop Besides since my intern team was very international we always had a fruitful sharing during the discussion due to our different cultural and education background All these met my expectation The best moment of my project was when I received the feedback and souvenir from the Vietnamese youth They said they were really thankful for our coming and looking forward to our next workshop which made me feel I have brought some change for them even though it was a small step In general I am satisfied of the whole project although there is some room for improvement I met lots of nice and eager interns from different countries in the project Since we have different knowledge background and culture sometimes it was really inspiring to discuss our topic issue with them Definitely I feel lucky to join S E P and enjoyed it very much If I have chance I will join more exchange abroad voluntary project again For more information on our Global Citizen programs you can read more about it on the website Alternatively you can read about some more experiences for example here Global Citizen Colombia Lena 12 February 2016 0 Comments in Experiences Abroad Vores erfaringer by Borsi My Stay in Colombia The story of Lena Juul Palsdorf Colombia turned out to give so much the people there are very open minded and greets you with open arms I wanted to see more and I didn t want to leave the people I had got to know I never thought I would be going abroad for any other reason than on vacation So when my friend told me that we should spend the summer volunteering somewhere I thought Yeah right never going to happen But the last few years so many things have changed for me made me stronger and forced me to get out of me comfort zone And every time it made me stronger so at some point I thought that I would give AIESEC a chance I hardly new anything and only made sure that somebody could take care of my cats before I signed with AIESEC Honestly I didn t now anything about Colombia before I went besides cocaine kidnappings and Shakira But I still went First of all

given me the energy to work harder than I thought I could Throughout my life my main focus was to get the right degree And although my motivation and ambition has always kept me going in the most recent years I have been looking for something that made me develop myself in ways that a university degree was not able to do While searching for ways to help me get an internship abroad for my third semester I came across AIESEC in the exact time where they were recruiting members Without knowing much about what it meant to be a member I decided to join and was happily accepted There are three questions you should ask every member 1 Why did you join AIESEC 2 What have you learned during this journey 3 What made you stay 1 Why did you join AIESEC In less than two years my university journey will end and before it does I want to spend my free time doing something where I could apply my degree in the practical manner and this seemed like the best way to do it 2 What have you learned in this journey It is very hard to know where to start when answering this question I could tell a lot of specific stories that made me reach certain conclusions but the main important ones are that I was selling myself short in my abilities This organization gave me the space to be solution oriented and act proactively They don t accept us to complain about something being wrong instead they ask us to fix it And for someone who is used to following the guidelines a teacher gives us otherwise the grade won t be as good it was very freeing to simply not having to overthink my decision and learned by doing I started seeing actual real results based on my actions instead of grades And it felt absolutely great when things started to work Suddenly my confidence increased Another key learning from this journey is that I finally really know what I wanted to do with my career path I have always had an idea but I wasn t sure until I put it into practice and now I can proudly answer the dreading question what do you want to after you complete your degree Finally my very pessimistic self about the future of the world was introduced to a group of people that are gathered all over the world trying to make it a better place And the best part of it all Its only run by young adults just like me 3 What made you stay One word people The members of this organization are inspiring ambitious young leaders from different backgrounds and having the chance to hang out with them really gave me the energy to work harder than I thought I could Nowadays I leave a long day at work feeling more energetic than I first arrived All in all if you wish you could do something more learn more and belong to an amazing group of extraordinary students you should join us Global Citizen finally we signed a contract I was ready to go In the volunteering program AIESEC provides a host family at least one meal a day and a representative from the local committee to pick you up in the airport I just had to buy the flight tickets myself and then they arranged the rest It was easy but also kind of weird not being in control of where I was going to sleep for the next 6 weeks I was picked up in the airport after 16 hours of flying by 6 7 people Most of them were from AIESEC Ecuador but some of them were trainees like me Because I applied so late the local committee didn t have time to arrange my moving in with my host family so the first two days I stayed in the house of one of the girls from AIESEC Ecuador She lived with her parents and her sister close to the city centre and all of them were very welcoming friendly and humoristic Unfortunately I didn t understand all of her dad s jokes but I understood that he was hilarious After two days in this lovely home I went with a representative from AIESEC to my foundation to greet my new co workers the pupils and the other volunteers After that the headmaster and the school coordinator invited me over for lunch in their home just next to the school whereupon they took me to my host family I didn t really know anything about the family except that they had kids who went to the school I found out that my family consisted of a 38 year old mum a 48 year old dad a 10 year old girl her 8 year old sister and their 3 year old brother So far I have never in my life met anybody so open minded loveable and welcoming as my host family in Ecuador From day one I felt like a part of the family even though everything was in Spanish With this amazing base I now felt ready to explore Ecuador My host mum and the kids playing in their new sandbox in the garden Global Citizen Colombia Lena 12 February 2016 0 Comments in Experiences Abroad Vores erfaringer by Borsi My Stay in Colombia The story of Lena Juul Palsdorf Colombia turned out to give so much the people there are very open minded and greets you with open arms I wanted to see more and I didn t want to leave the people I had got to know I never thought I would be going abroad for any other reason than on vacation So when my friend told me that we should spend the summer volunteering somewhere I thought Yeah right never going to happen But the last few years so many things have changed for me made me stronger and forced me to get out of me comfort zone And every time it made me stronger so at
