  • THE RIGHT DEGREE VS. THE RIGHT PERSPECTIVE - AIESEC
you should ask every member 1 Why did you join AIESEC 2 What have you learned during this journey 3 What made you stay 1 Why did you join AIESEC In less than two years my university journey will end and before it does I want to spend my free time doing something where I could apply my degree in the practical manner and this seemed like the best way to do it 2 What have you learned in this journey It is very hard to know where to start when answering this question I could tell a lot of specific stories that made me reach certain conclusions but the main important ones are that I was selling myself short in my abilities This organization gave me the space to be solution oriented and act proactively They don t accept us to complain about something being wrong instead they ask us to fix it And for someone who is used to following the guidelines a teacher gives us otherwise the grade won t be as good it was very freeing to simply not having to overthink my decision and learned by doing I started seeing actual real results based on my actions instead of grades And it felt absolutely great when things started to work Suddenly my confidence increased Another key learning from this journey is that I finally really know what I wanted to do with my career path I have always had an idea but I wasn t sure until I put it into practice and now I can proudly answer the dreading question what do you want to after you complete your degree Finally my very pessimistic self about the future of the world was introduced to a group of people that are gathered all over the

AIESEC is very positive I believe it is helpful in assisting people to develop their global thinking and leadership Since some interns of S E P are the member of AIESEC of their local countries they shown comprehensive thinking and excellent local public speaking during the discussion and workshops Therefore without a doubt I would recommend AIESEC to my friends I feel after the project I found out that my public speaking skills haven been sharpened and understood how to organise an effective workshop Besides since my intern team was very international we always had a fruitful sharing during the discussion due to our different cultural and education background All these met my expectation The best moment of my project was when I received the feedback and souvenir from the Vietnamese youth They said they were really thankful for our coming and looking forward to our next workshop which made me feel I have brought some change for them even though it was a small step In general I am satisfied of the whole project although there is some room for improvement I met lots of nice and eager interns from different countries in the project Since we have different knowledge background and culture sometimes it was really inspiring to discuss our topic issue with them Definitely I feel lucky to join S E P and enjoyed it very much If I have chance I will join more exchange abroad voluntary project again For more information on our Global Citizen programs you can read more about it on the website Alternatively you can read about some more experiences for example here 5 things about the work culture in Denmark and Vietnam 27 October 2015 0 Comments in Experiences Abroad Vores erfaringer by Claudia Comparing work between Vietnam and Denmark As most of my blogs have been about fun stuff and food I thought it would be good to write one about work Going on an internship through AIESEC is more than just a fun travel and meeting a couple of foreigners It s getting to know the good and the bad of a new place culture and work environment It s seeing the holistic picture So this post will still be connected to culture though as working in a new country doesn t just teach you new professional skills it also teaches you more about the country and people and how these affect the work environment As I ve only worked in Denmark and Vietnam until now I ll mention some similarities and differences between these two countries some more serious than others No shoes I always thought it was weird to see how all Danish people take their shoes off at school or in the office and walk around barefoot or in fluffy socks With time I got used to it and even appreciated being able to take off my annoying shoes whenever I felt like it To my surprise most women in Vietnam come to the office wearing

Identity to finish my matching However she helped me solve the problem and finished the final matching procedure Besides the EP manager explained me everything and even shared her own outgoing exchange experience with me Regarding all practical matters like visa work permit vaccine injection I was provided with all the useful information such as where the interns in the past received their vaccine by my EP manager AIESEC Ho Chi Minh City organized different activities to help all interns understand more about Vietnamese culture and exchange their experiences For instance there was a welcoming party and language class at the beginning I learned some useful words like greeting and understood the Vietnamese living culture such as how to cross the road which is full of motorbike without being hit Sometimes the host LC organized city tour and food tour for us if we had day off During the food tour I got the chance to taste lots of special Vietnamese food like Vietnamese spring roll and bream Nearly the end of the project I joined the global village event and farewell party A bit about my experience Overall my impression of AIESEC is very positive I believe it is helpful in assisting people to develop their global thinking and leadership Since some interns of S E P are the member of AIESEC of their local countries they shown comprehensive thinking and excellent local public speaking during the discussion and workshops Therefore without a doubt I would recommend AIESEC to my friends I feel after the project I found out that my public speaking skills haven been sharpened and understood how to organise an effective workshop Besides since my intern team was very international we always had a fruitful sharing during the discussion due to our different cultural and education background All these met my expectation The best moment of my project was when I received the feedback and souvenir from the Vietnamese youth They said they were really thankful for our coming and looking forward to our next workshop which made me feel I have brought some change for them even though it was a small step In general I am satisfied of the whole project although there is some room for improvement I met lots of nice and eager interns from different countries in the project Since we have different knowledge background and culture sometimes it was really inspiring to discuss our topic issue with them Definitely I feel lucky to join S E P and enjoyed it very much If I have chance I will join more exchange abroad voluntary project again For more information on our Global Citizen programs you can read more about it on the website Alternatively you can read about some more experiences for example here Crazy exciting plans with a motorcycle 21 November 2015 0 Comments in Experiences Abroad Vores erfaringer by Claudia For any friends who wrote to me during the last weeks my answers were probably almost monosyllabic hehe sorry A lot happened thankfully just good stuff so here s a short blog post simply updating people on my life and the new plans I have Motorcycle I got a new baby 3 Well I m actually just renting my baby because it s cheaper for only 3 months OMG I AM HALF WAY THROUGH THE CONTRACT ALREADY But it s pretty amazing Traffic can be scary but once you understand the logic yes there is some logic to it it s not so bad The most important thing is to figure out if cars busses and other motorbikes are honking at you at someone else or if they re doing it because they re bored But with time you get it Also I realised how much easier it is when you don t have to beg for rides And how much faster you ll learn the map of Hanoi when you have to drive yourself I learnt in 2 days what I didn t manage to do in 2 months So now it s time to start making plans for short Sunday trips Making plans with new motorbike Although lately there is a focus on teaching English here many kids don t actually learn anything since they are not lucky enough to have a teacher who is used to always speaking English Teaching After being the MC for World Psoriasis Day on Sunday I realised that all my afternoons of watching movies should be spent on something more productive So I decided to finally bother and find a part time job teaching Yes it s true that this is partly because the extra money would be nice for paying for more food and that it will be a good learning experience for me but it s also because I want to help these kids Soo this is not the kindergarten I work at I just thought it was cute and I have no picture from mine yet P Although lately there is a focus on teaching English here many kids don t actually learn anything since they are not lucky enough to have a teacher who is used to always speaking English Many of the Vietnamese English teachers end up teaching the kids 5 words in English and then speaking Vietnamese to them without realising And I was impressed how many more opportunities there are for English speakers I ll teach twice a week for 4 6 year old kindergarten kids so I have to mostly play and sing with them I found out I really love it unexpected much I ll probably have to convince the teachers to change the syllabus a bit since they don t focus very much on teaching lots of words they d rather want me to teach them to write the alphabet And I hope I ll manage to get there on time every time since I have to pass through one of Hanoi s biggest traffic jams But I think that it
