  • Reducing food waste is easier than you think - here's why - AIESEC
we have the power to reduce food waste significantly The beauty of WeFood One of the hottest topics in Europe at the moment concerning environment is regulation of food waste in supermarkets If you have not heard about it you should know that France has passed a new law which makes large shops to donate unsold food to charities and food banks It means that food which cannot be sold due to wrong packaging or reaching the date best before will not be destroyed but donated It sounds like right step forward doesn t it I hope it will not stop with just supermarkets However the initiative which is even more exciting to pay attention to and not just because it is placed in Copenhagen is the food shop WeFood WeFood is actually the first shop in the world which sells either food that is close or after best before date or is wrong packaged thus unsellable in supermarkets What is then the difference between the law in France and WeFood While in France the food banks redistribute the food among people in need in Denmark anybody can go to WeFood and buy food which would be in Danish supermarkets unsellable The food is of course cheaper However the shop is not only for people who look for cheap food the shop is also for people like me who would like to fight with food waste Moreover the popularity and press presence of this shop increase the awareness of food waste topic significantly What is even more admirable WeFood is run by volunteers and all profit goes to the charity organization DanChurchAid which fights with hunger in the poorest countries However the fact is that supermarkets are accounted for only 5 of food waste in EU Therefore it is important that we as human beings take care of our world by taking the right action 5 tips to reduce your food waste TODAY Put on your plate only what you can eat and finish your meal It often happens that our eyes are hungrier than our stomach and we are full even before we finish whole meal Put on your plate a little bit less than you feel because you can always get some extra portion Better to take second plate than to throw out half of your meal In case you have leftovers have them for lunch the other day Shop smartly Plan dinners for 3 4 days check your fridge first before leaving to shop and make a list what you really need to prevent overbuying With a plan for 3 4 days you will get usually food for 1 2 extra days due to leftovers Moreover check the dates use by and best before in order to avoid your food getting spoiled before you will use it Eat out smartly When you are eating out and you cannot finish your meal ask to wrap the leftovers up and take it with you If you go eat out

be answered now is why volunteer abroad with AIESEC 1 You can travel WITH A PURPOSE get experience working with your passion and raise awareness to an issue you think is important 2 You can volunteer in almost any country we re present in 126 countries the point is that you will make an impact and get a real experience meeting the local culture 3 Since this is a project based programme we are looking for people with ANY skills if you have something to offer to other people we can find the project suited to you 4 The projects happen around the year which means you could start within 2 weeks 5 Did we mention Leadership Development Of course we did but one more time in AIESEC we believe that even after 6 weeks you will become more self aware as you will probably face some culture shock or other challenges and when you can reflect on them then you will get the chance to grow as a person and empower others to do the same Check out our projects Sounds too good to be true Not by large If others could do it why couldn t you Lena and Andreea are two examples from AIESEC Denmark who just like Giancarlo have already taken a step forward to become Global Citizens At the end of the day it is up to you how far you go I FN handler det om hvad du har lavet ikke altid om hvad du har læst 19 February 2016 0 Comments in Hvad vi laver Our people by Borsi af Daniel Dang Nedergaard Nielsen I verdens muligvis vigtigste organisation FN kommer tusindvis af håbefulde unge gennem svingdørene som interns Så hvad adskiller en FN intern fra en almindelig universitetsstuderende Min egen erfaring med AIESEC som leder af en lokalafdeling med ansvar for at hente internationale unge til Danmark for danske virksomheder har ført til at jeg i dag er forbundet med nogle af de hurtigst voksende startups i Københavnsområdet Fokusér på dit studie men udforsk mulighederne for at lave studierelevant arbejde ved siden af universitetet fortalte Pernille Fenger Direktør for United Nations Population Fund Det er hovedbudskabet fra de otte talere for FN s Karrieredag den 17 februar Arrangementet som jeg og et par venner deltog ved var udsolgt to uger før dagen På trods af at interns er ulønnede ved FN er det hårde arbejde ved Marmormolen højt eftertragtet Og når du kommer ind i FN er ethvert job midlertidig så du behøver at bevise din værdi igen og igen De mennesker jeg er allermest stolt af at have arbejdet sammen med har tilskrevet AIESEC en stor del af deres nuværende stillinger FN s repræsentanter gentog i flere omgang at i FN er tempoet tårnhøjt og derfor er nåleøjet også lille Grundlæggende er der tre ting unge i dag skal se sig om efter 1 Praktisk erfaring Uanset om det er frivilligt lønnet eller anden slags arbejde skal det være karriere og ikke nødvendigvis studierelevant Fordi det er ofte er lettere at finde guld i Københavns gader end at lande det lækre job ved Mærsk bør vi studerende også arbejde frivilligt 2 International udsigt At kunne tale flydende engelsk var en fordel 25 år tilbage I FN i dag kræves det at man kan tale et af de seks officielle FN sprog Så måske er det på tide at støve det gamle gymnasie fransk af og lære at sige mere end Omelet du fromage 3 Hav det rigtige netværk Ligesom i de dage hvor ens veninde kendte dørmanden og man blev lukket ind i baren selvom man var under 18 så skal man i dag også være på fornavn med de mennesker der kan hjælpe os videre i vores karriere Ved FN og i livet skal vi lære hele tiden fortæller Anne Poulsen Direktør for FN s Nordiske World Food Programme Jobsikkerheden ved stort set alle virksomheder i dag er lavere end bare ti år tilbage Opfordringen er at vi unge skal holde os oppe på noderne og suge viden til os hvor som helst vi befinder os Den største gave vi kan give som vil vare for evigt er viden til os selv Med andre ord ambitiøse unge skal ud og finde mulighederne indenfor områder der på sigt kan give adgang til karrierer indenfor FN Min egen erfaring med AIESEC som leder af en lokalafdeling med ansvar for at hente internationale unge til Danmark for danske virksomheder har ført til at jeg i dag er forbundet med nogle af de hurtigst voksende startups i Københavnsområdet Det er startups som Churchdesk og Graduateland som jeg har haft fornøjelsen af at arbejde helt tæt med sideløbende med at jeg har været ansvarlig for ni medlemmers personlige og professionelle udvikling I dag er de forskellige steder i verden De mennesker jeg er allermest stolt af at have arbejdet sammen med har tilskrevet AIESEC en stor del af deres nuværende stillinger En af mine medlemmer fra Serbien blev med sin erfaring fra AIESEC hyret som den personlige assistent for den danske ambassadør til Serbien En anden er i dag butiksbestyrer for tre butikker og en tredje blev valgt til lokalformand og fik på siden et arbejde ved et ministerium og en fjerde fik lov at skrive en Ph D Det er nogle af de successhistorier jeg som en AIESEC er er mest stolt og ydmyg om Når Pernille Fenger snakker om at fokusere på sit studie og udforske mulighederne ved siden af nikkede jeg mit hoved næsten af led AIESEC har vist mine tidligere medlemmer en karrierevej fremad som de ikke havde tænkt sig da de startede i sin tid I dag er jeg overbevist om at jeg ikke bliver en del af køen til Magistrenes A kasse men en del af en spændende global fremtid med et utal af muligheder 4 reasons to work in AIESEC Denmark 24 November 2015 0 Comments in Hvad vi laver Our people by Jose As Confucius put it about 2 500 years ago when you love your work you never work a day And that s about right Never have the past 2 5 years in AIESEC seemed like work to me My name is Zé I m a Portuguese guy working in the national office of AIESEC in Denmark and I m responsible for the marketing of the organization Last week I flew from Copenhagen to Switzerland where I was part of the team who organized a conference for 350 people in the Alps The objective of the conference was to gather all the members of AIESEC in Switzerland and connect them with the purpose of understanding the organization and how can they develop personally and professionally in order to bring a leadership development experience to hundreds of others more through exchange So what are the unique traits of this job You work with people from all corners of the earth At a point in time the whole organizing team sat at the dinner table and had the most hilarious conversation when a Tunisian and a Moroccan decided it would be fun to ask the Taiwanese to pronounce an Arabic term That s when I realized that I was working with 2 Brazilian 1 Venezuelan 1 Mexican 1 Taiwanese 1 Ghanaian 3 Swiss 1 Greek 1 Norwegian 1 Moroccan 1 Tunisian 1 Italian 1 French 1 Romanian and 1 Lithuanian Puff You work with people who dream higher than you can see In a previous conference sitting at a dinner table again I asked a girl from Tajikistan what was it that she wanted to do with her live and her answer left me speechless for a couple of seconds I want to win the Nobel Prize of Medicine she sipped one more spoon of her soup If I get to the end of my life and I have not achieved it I know it will all have been worth it because while working for it I will have changed the way we do medicine and have saved countless lives You work with people that are not afraid of changing the status quo In Switzerland I met Edward Tseng a Taiwanese working in AIESEC Malaysia who takes very seriously the fact that the education in East Asia is passive and each student finishes his or her degree ready to indulge in a 10 hour working day most of the times not having a weekend At the same time he also struggles with the fact that 40 of all food produced in Malaysia is thrown away without being consumed His commitment as the national responsible for volunteering exchanges is to grow the exchange participants coming to Malaysia this winter from 100 last year to 500 young people from all over the world By having them volunteering in schools evolving the students in practical education that broadens their horizons or by volunteering in local NGOs to tackle the issue of food waste You never work a day As Confucius put it about 2 500 years ago when you love your work you never work a day And that s about right Never have the past 2 5 years in AIESEC seemed like work to me So far it has been a place for fun personal evolution professional development amazing not working trips I ve been to 7 countries with AIESEC and an endless list of friends and contacts that warm my heart And while we do all this as members of this organization we develop youth with practical leadership experiences through exchange Isn t it the most unique job in the world Why should we care about corporate events 15 November 2015 0 Comments in Hvad vi laver Our people by Borsi We want to help people in their life without actually pushing the product on them We would like to create a bigger network of professionals who can share knowledge Students want to hear more about them not only from other students Hej reader Nice to see you again we missed you honest We are always trying to find something of interest to you and so far you could read a bit about the background of AIESEC our recruitment processes and interviews with some fantastic members in AIESEC Denmark Now we are moving on to something even exciting Want to guess Okay here s a hint CORPORATE EVENTS If these two words evoke fear and boredom in your mind take another look at it because AIESEC SDU has taken a spin and is ready to change the game of organizing rewarding events for all participants involved We talked with Rikke Frimodt Pedersen a member of Marketing and Incoming Exchange who was kind enough to tell us a bit about how networking events can be taken to the next level through engaging content Q Hi Rikke thank you for agreeing to talk to us Can you introduce yourself in a bit more detail A Yes of course My name is Rikke I m 21 years old studying International Negotiations with Business Language and Culture in my 4th semester I have been in AIESEC for almost a year now It met them through a friend who was also there and I heard it was a good opportunity to gain professional experience and new skills to be used later in life Q So can you tell us about the latest event that you had with SDU A We had an event last week however we tried not to focus only on presenting AIESEC and why you should choose it but also to show how it can help you later either through skills or through networking It was more of a self branding event where we collaborated with our partner CA Karrierepartner og A kasse to organize it The main benefit of that of course is that part of the budget is also covered this way especially food and location Q Who did you invite to this event A We had professional speakers such as Henrik Hahn Nissen as well as AIESEC speakers Our External Relations Manager got in contact with the external speakers through LinkedIn and got him to come and speak for us Then we talked about self branding networking explaining how best to use these two together and how can you use it for entrepreneurial purposes We can broaden our own business partnerships We can also promote ourselves to the business and to customers So I think it is more than relevant to use external speakers when possible Rikke Q How long have you been involved with these events A I ve only joined Marketing in September The idea and partnerships were already arranged but I did participate in the discussion of ideas and the process Q How would you evaluate the event A It was good When you focus on what they got out of it the event was a success The participants looked satisfied and happy during and after There was a good mood about the event so hopefully it will attract more people next time The focus is on creating a good event and thus awareness that s the output we are hoping for At the moment we only use Facebook for these events but next time we are planning on using posters and we do send follow up emails to the attendants who expressed their wish to be informed about coming events Q What other things are you planning in the near future A We are planning two more events at the start of next year The next one in January is going to be about how to write the perfect CV We want to give the attendants something of value and they do need this skill Q What is the benefit of using external partners during AIESEC events A For once we can tap into their database of members We can broaden our own business partnerships We can also promote ourselves to the business and to customers So I think it is more than relevant to use external speakers when possible while making it aligned with our own purposes Q How do you see the purpose of corporate events A The basic thing is networking Also there is inspiration and motivation to be had We want to inspire people to do something and act upon that inspiration The purpose is to take theory and turn it into practice To show how you can actually use the skills you are getting Q What other outcomes are you hoping for from these events A To raise awareness of AIESEC in general So that people know what we are all about We want to help people in their life without actually pushing the product on them We would like to create a bigger network of professionals who can share knowledge Students want to hear more about them not only from other students Also by creating these B2B partnerships we can challenge regional issues for example lack of professionals and students from certain areas etc Q What do you personally get out of organizing events A It definitely gives you a bigger network and an idea about how events work it s not only what you can see but what you can t see You also learn how to compromise and still get the best out of it and you also get to understand how important marketing promotions are to get people interested in advance Q Any upcoming event that you re having A As mentioned before we are having an event about making the best CV this time with our external partner SDU Erhverv The photo on top is How can AIESEC prepare the youth of today for a better tomorrow We have an answer to that question However before we go into all the juicy details we would like to ask you to think about the following scenario Imagine a world of the future A world with leaders who are driven passionate diverse in thought leaders who responsible and entrepreneurial empowered and who can empower others AIESEC has always been adaptable because we have always worked with young able minded and insanely brave people who left their comfort zone at one point of their life never to turn back to it This is the believe that it can be developed in everyone What do we offer Through AIESEC we provide you the platform of the Leadership Development Model LDM It aims to help preparing young people to take responsibility for the future and be ready to improve situations and conditions they are unhappy about It helps them to make a positive impact in any aspect of their life they choose LDM or the life long leadership journey of young people You also constantly explore what you want to achieve in your life These are the qualities that we strive to build in ourselves in our members and the people who Model is unique but it is not the only answer It is however our answer Now we ask you Are you ready to make the right impact What is the impact you make 2 October 2015 0 Comments in Hvad vi laver Our people by Borsi Hello readers My name is Stefan Volkmann and I am a student of Library Science and Information Management I met AIESEC in Germany in 2013 through a friend He would tell me how AIESEC is all about a fun and multicultural environment So I was very surprised at how professional it turned out to be and I was really impressed I was already exposed to international environments before My family moved to Denmark in 2007 and I finished an international high school there I truly missed it a lot and through AIESEC I really feel that I m getting it back again I began my AIESEC engagement during my ERASMUS semester and internship in Copenhagen I tried myself out in helping other students on their way to an experience abroad was headhunting for Danish IT companies and led the organization team of a national conference all in just one year Afterwards I was elected into the executive board of AIESEC in Stuttgart Hohenheim in Germany and was responsible for the personal development of about 50 young volunteers and aspiring leaders for another year Since Summer 2015 I entirely left my comfort zone to support AIESEC in Denmark in the business development and fostering strategic partnerships Despite being neighbours the differences between AIESEC in Germany and Denmark were quite impressive The Danish plenary is or course considerably smaller but interestingly attracts way more international students than pure Danes In contrast Germany is lead by a majority of Germans which gives the organization also a stereotypically German culture the structures and processes are very organized and broad sometimes to the point of being a bit rigid like a Fortune 500 In AIESEC Denmark however you run into

  • 5 GOOD REASONS TO VOLUNTEER ABROAD - AIESEC
everyone on the planet we all know that there are still many issues to be tackled With that in mind AIESEC now works together with the UN and governments in almost every countries in order to achieve these goals and engage the youth to contribute to the making of a better future We would all love a better future amirite The point is The Sustainable Development goals are a universal set of goals targets and indicators that the United Nations member states will be expected to use to frame their agendas and political policies over the next 15 years What goals are we talking about For example Indonesia swore to improve the quality of education while Malaysia wants to stop the excessive waste of food and Peru is creating projects regarding the climate change and its effects on the locals So no we are not only offering a 6 week vacation If you choose to embark on a journey with us you ll definitely have to get out of your comfort zone You ll feel lost while trying to communicate with the locals or depending on the location get a hotspot on your phone to check Facebook And while you re wondering in a different city gaining some cultural understanding you ll probably start understanding yourself a bit more which is in our opinion the key to Leadership Development The question that remains to be answered now is why volunteer abroad with AIESEC 1 You can travel WITH A PURPOSE get experience working with your passion and raise awareness to an issue you think is important 2 You can volunteer in almost any country we re present in 126 countries the point is that you will make an impact and get a real experience meeting the local culture 3 Since
