  • September 2015 - AIESEC
mit helt nye livskapitel møder jeg denne flok selvsikre og åbne studerende og vælger at træde ind i organisation direkte Organisationen er en legeplads og specielt for en som mig Efter to måneder ansøgte jeg om en næstformands position som jeg besad i en etårs periode hvorefter jeg ansøgte om og fik positionen som formand for AIESEC i Aalborg Der er flere gange at jeg tænker at livet kunne være meget mere simpelt meget lettere hvis nu bare man passede sit studie og sit simple studiejob i stedet for al det her frivillige arbejde men så kommer jeg i tanke om at hver gang jeg møder udfordringer på min vej så ved jeg at jeg altid kommer ud på den anden side stolt og tilfreds for hver gang tager jeg tyren ved hornene gør mit bedste og siger fuck janteloven for jeg er sgu god nok Recruitment in focus be a world citizen 16 September 2015 0 Comments in Hvad vi laver Our people by Borsi A hearty welcome to all our readers September is all about recruitment one of the most important period for AIESEC Denmark This month is all finding the people who can talk the talk and walk the walk and are ready to take on the challenge of joining us So staying with this topic we would like to introduce another member of the national team MCVP TM Talent Management and OGX Outgoing Exchange Lukas Kucera We caught him for a short interview to talk about how he started in the organization and how his experience has given him a new truly global perspective So without further ado here we go Q So let s cut to the chase and tell us how did you meet AIESEC A It was in Prague at university where I was doing my Bachelor degree was where I heard about AIESEC first It seemed like a prestigious and cool organization but also a bit exclusive like it was for super smart people I never considered myself as such and I never realized at that time what they were doing Then I moved to Denmark and there I saw an AIESEC stand once again So I went up to ask what they are actually about They told me how they are aiming to create cross cultural experience through providing internships but also that it is a lot of work searching for companies searching for students and to get the word out I was interested in the HR team from the very beginning which was mostly about organizing events at the time and I did want to try that I was also looking to challenge myself so I went to the interview and I believed that I ll ace it And I did I was curious to see what it can give me Then I had my LTS Local Training Seminar induction weekend for the new members to get to know the departments and processes and have fun and that convinced me that I do want to be there that I do want to stay there and work for it Q What was your first impression after joining A The EB Executive Board a sort of supervisory group were trying to build up the entity from scratch They were still looking for ways and it was not clear what we were supposed to be doing The hardest thing was to find my role there were too many people for some very specific tasks But as it happens eventually the people who wanted to stay stayed and the rest quit I learned then that if you are waiting and do not commit to be proactive you will not get the development you are seeking Q Can you quickly go through what roles have you had so far A As I said I joined the HR team or the Member Development Team as it was called back then We created a coaching framework from scratch that s when I learned coaching and then I decided to run for VP Vice President position I wanted to do something more It all happened in a very short time I just went for it And then I realized what the role really meant and what AIESEC really meant I think it is a bit late people should realize it even earlier preferably during LTS that it is even cooler than you thought Then after a year I ran for MCVP with success My current role is MCVP TM and OGX and I am the only member right now with two Functional Areas and with about 11 people as of now And it s not just coaching it s real work Right now OGX takes most of my time I need to mind international relations communicational channels and support the matching process and make sure of the leadership development the Eps receive It made me see a whole new dimension of the leadership development experience that we are selling In terms of TM I can see how exchange oriented it really should be This also has given me a new perspective and I m trying to boost this aspect now We are here to provide cross cultural experiences All members should be aware of what it means and everything should be related to that Q Why do you think we need AIESEC What is the purpose A To create leaders who can pick their fights and win There isn t only one global issue there are many So we are creating change agents who can choose from these issues and solve them By doing that we are also empowering others to do the same If we can keep it up we can tackle any issues Q What inspires you as an AIESECer A I am inspired by each and every interns whether they come to Denmark or leave Denmark You can see how our internships change and shape a person You can see how those journey open their eyes and they realize how much they can do It s really all about the stories they create It s important to be in different countries It is not only AIESEC that gave me this mindset However it definitely gave me another one I consider myself a world citizen even if not fully fledged yet But it s getting there More on AIESEC Values and the complex simplicity of the Leadership Development Model here Vietnam with Claudia Part II 7 September 2015 0 Comments in Experiences Abroad Vores erfaringer by Claudia 1 5 days as a tourist Although I keep wanting to write about Vietnamese general culture weird habits and similarities my work and other random stuff I have to postpone it again This time it is because after almost three weeks of getting here I finally felt like I have an idea of what tourists do in Hanoi During most of my time here I am actually quite busy with work especially due to the work on Saturdays and eating yes I spend a lot of free time eating till I explode So one of my amazing co workers decided to take me on a mini tour on her motorbike through Hanoi on Saturday after work It was quite amazing so I ll write about it here Firstly we started with food obviously We ate eel and vermicelli at a place called Huyen Trang click for map and it was soooo delicious Seriously if you get to Hanoi go there Then being full and happy we started our tour We passed by Ba Dinh square which actually impressed me more than I expected After seeing all these places crammed with people and those small buildings so close to each other it was quite amazing to see such a vast space It was on a day where it was closed due to rehearsals for Independence Day 2 nd of September so that made it look even more extreme as there was absolutely no person in the square Our trip continued to two pagodas the Tran Quoc pagoda and the Tay Ho pagoda The first one is the oldest pagoda in Hanoi it is bigger and has more shrines It does not only worship Buddhas it also worships Mothers female Buddhas It is situated next to Ho Tay West Lake which is huge and makes the pagoda s garden look extremely peaceful The second one was smaller yet just as liked by the locals It inspired a rather hygge feeling with people sitting and talking in its garden also next to a small lake praying for longer and burning things that would help their gone friends and relatives have a better life in the afterlife I still cannot say which one I liked most both beautiful in their own ways similar yet so different I hadn t eaten in like two hours so this had to be followed by Tran Tien ice cream It was a quite interesting place a big room with different booths each selling another type of ice cream The weird thing was that everyone went in with their motorbikes and parked them there then ate the ice cream sitting on their bikes or just standing There were no decorations no nothing people actually just went there for the ice cream Then the ride continued towards the university area where my great guide showed me amongst other the university of economics the one of business engineering You might wonder why I think it s worth posting about it Well mainly because it is soooo diferent to what I experienced during my university life If you live in DK pretty much all universities have quite beautiful buildings and I feel like a lot of focus is on having cozy places Here it was not quite like that the aspect did not seem to matter much neither in the universities nor in their dorms Simple buildings quite similar to the ones that were built in Romania during the communist times old paint and little garden space But then you get to the backstreets around the campus and it s full of life Food street food people playing sports gambling and laughing It felt like half of the young people in Hanoi were hanging out there We sat down at a street food place ate snails yup They were delicious and drank ice tea and the atmosphere was so lively It seemed like students were having a great time without all the need to prettify buildings parks and the surroundings Right when we left it started raining so my beautiful touristy day ended there But this post is about 1 5 days Why Well because on the 2 nd of September we had the day off work due to their Independence Day Why only 0 5 Their day begins at 7 am with a march in Ba Dinh square if you know me you won t be surprised that I overslept Then after eating some great Pho and chilling with friends our plan to watch the fireworks in Old Town completely failed Why again Because OMG people are crazy There were sooo many people on the streets walking biking in taxis for someone who wasn t mentally prepared for that it was a shock I ve seen traffic jams and busy streets before but I think that 90 of Hanoi was there The atmosphere was electric everyone seemed so happy but at the same time it could get a bit too intense So then we decided to go home and my plan was to watch the fireworks from our terrace but then the skyscapers around were too tall and I just heard the combined noise of fireworks and thunder without seeing anything Oh well still had an amazing day hanging out in parks eating spaghetti didn t realise how much I d missed it and seeing crazily excited Vietnamese people enjoy their independence day So Happy Vietnamese Independence day to everyone LC on the run Introducing SDU 4 September 2015 0 Comments in Vores aftryk i Danmark by Borsi written by Anela Dzapo Hey awesome people I was given the opportunity to share some of my experiences in AIESEC with you so brace yourselves because here is a short sum up of the past year and a half I m super excited to let you in on some of the opportunities I have had since I joined this organization in February 2014 Oh yeah before I forget My name is Anela and I m a BA graduate from the University of Southern Denmark I am currently enrolled in a Master program at Århus University I m 24 years old newly engaged no I m not young according to my culture and enjoying life to the fullest This blog post will not be about my studies my engagement or my love for traveling This will however be my first blog post ever yay and will contain some of the opportunities that AIESEC has given me Now that this is covered let s rewind time a bit During winter 2014 I was feeling very confused and demotivated with school with my job and in general with life I was confused about what I actually wanted to do and demotivated because I felt that I was spending so much time on studying and so little time on actually getting any experience that could lead me to some ideas of what I wanted to do in the future So why exactly was I spending so much time on reading books about Porter Kotler social science and history veeery broad study program I know But what was the point of it Eventually I became so annoyed with myself and the fact that I couldn t figure out what I wanted to do that I thought I had to do something differently I started off by signed up for a case competition in Copenhagen hey experience and networking right I created a team with two fellow students from Aalborg university ah yes forgot to mention I have also been enrolled at AAU been quite around and 1 girl from SDU During the case competition the girl from SDU Desislava told me about AIESEC which I actually had heard about before because my good friend Jasmina had been part of it Long story short she made such a fuss about how awesome this organization was that I thought I had to try it out for myself Not just because she was telling me so much about it but also because I had decided to try and do things a bit differently and maybe gain some experience through volunteer work So I joined AIESEC in February 2014 and immediately applied for a vice president position of Marketing in SDU You re probably wondering why I did so or how I had the guts to apply Well half of my study program was about marketing so I thought why not get into that field from a manager position and see what it is all about and maybe just maybe I could figure out whether marketing was something I wanted to do in the future After a year in this position at SDU I realized that marketing might not have been for me don t get me wrong I enjoyed it SO much had so much fun was able to experiment with different marketing approaches had the freedom to do whatever my team and I felt was the best way of branding and promoting AIESEC developed myself personally gained Photoshop and Indesign skills organized events signed partnerships but most importantly I discovered what I wanted to do in the future So joining AIESEC gave me the opportunity to experiment I joined international conferences national conferences and Youth to Business forums which were some of the places where my idea of what I wanted to do in my life started developing I have met so many young talented people business people young entrepreneurs and people who took their future into their own hands AND my dear readers this is EXACTLY what I wanted to do I now understood that I no longer could be satisfied working in an office for someone else I understand if someone has a dream of working as a marketing manager in a big company or HR specialist in the private sector but now I knew that this was no longer what I wanted to do I needed to create something myself I needed to start my own project The present It s almost 6 months into my term as a local committee president of SDU in AIESEC in Denmark I can t believe that time is passing by so fast I feel like it was yesterday that I was holding my speech in front of the members of SDU to become president of the committee when my vice president term ends I remember being slightly nervous gracefully insulted the age of my fellow vice presidents but eventually got elected to run the term of 15 16 I still have 7 months left of my term as the local president and I can t wait for what adventures I will take in AIESEC during the next period Who knows maybe I will let you in on some more StayTuned for more detailed blogs about some of the opportunities I mentioned A Ð Behind the scenes Q A with Zé 4 September 2015 0 Comments in Hvad vi laver Our people by Borsi For the management an organisation especially something as large scale as AIESEC it is never quite easy to show our more personal side You might as well just take our word for when we say we are ordinary people who are trying to achieve extraordinary things But we would also like you to get to know to us that s why you re here after all The best way for that might just be a conversation

an internship that I couldn t be more happier to be a part of Cultural Teaching in Øse Efterskole Everyday is a good day The definition of time here is measured in amazing moments My luck was that I had been chosen to come into an Art School I myself graduated and art school 6 years ago Therefore things come easy to me as I am being a music teacher and an English assistant teacher Still I learn a lot about being a teacher and handling different situations also to enjoy whatever you are doing One thing the danish people inspire me is being positive and happy They are being pros at this The definition of time here is measured in amazing moments I could tell you a lot of secrets that make my experience special But dear friend the key to understanding your experience is to embrace the good and the bad and also try to embrace a new lifestyle that will instantly make you compare enjoy and open new horizons If you ask me the first thing you have to learn when landing on the Land of the Vikings is that There s no bad weather only bad clothing A very true quote mon ami See I didn t only take it for the quotation that it is and the point that is has I started applying it in different circumstances with a deeper meaning For example there are no bad days just the wrong attitude But the key is that I can t blame the unknown for what I think I do or I feel So as long as I AM HERE it s only my decision how things turn out to be And believe me they are just amazing P S Forgot to say that they
