that matter we are able to convert energy into action We want to hear about you and so we invite you to take a look at the links below and learn about the YouthSpeak Survey and the movement a bit more What are you waiting for Let your voice be heard today Click on the picture to take the Survey Follow AIESEC YouthSpeak Facebook or learn more about YouthSpeak on the official AIESEC website or read the official YouthSpeak Blog here What is the impact you make 2 October 2015 0 Comments in Hvad vi laver Our people by Borsi Hello readers My name is Stefan Volkmann and I am a student of Library Science and Information Management I met AIESEC in Germany in 2013 through a friend He would tell me how AIESEC is all about a fun and multicultural environment So I was very surprised at how professional it turned out to be and I was really impressed I was already exposed to international environments before My family moved to Denmark in 2007 and I finished an international high school there I truly missed it a lot and through AIESEC I really feel that I m getting it back again I began my AIESEC engagement during my ERASMUS semester and internship in Copenhagen I tried myself out in helping other students on their way to an experience abroad was headhunting for Danish IT companies and led the organization team of a national conference all in just one year Afterwards I was elected into the executive board of AIESEC in Stuttgart Hohenheim in Germany and was responsible for the personal development of about 50 young volunteers and aspiring leaders for another year Since Summer 2015 I entirely left my comfort zone to support AIESEC in Denmark in the business development and fostering strategic partnerships Despite being neighbours the differences between AIESEC in Germany and Denmark were quite impressive The Danish plenary is or course considerably smaller but interestingly attracts way more international students than pure Danes In contrast Germany is lead by a majority of Germans which gives the organization also a stereotypically German culture the structures and processes are very organized and broad sometimes to the point of being a bit rigid like a Fortune 500 In AIESEC Denmark however you run into people with so many cultural backgrounds that it feels like an intercultural journey without leaving the country I have already held some titles so you might be wondering what keeps me around here For one the international environment made me a true cosmopolitan But I would be incomplete without the personal development that my engagement gives me and others You can feel yourself advancing in your mindset your abilities it enriches your confidence your perspectives I feel that I m always learning something new and unexpected It s a feeling that I wish any other person in the world to have It also makes you feel especially if you try yourself out in leadership positions

create cross cultural experience through providing internships but also that it is a lot of work searching for companies searching for students and to get the word out I was interested in the HR team from the very beginning which was mostly about organizing events at the time and I did want to try that I was also looking to challenge myself so I went to the interview and I believed that I ll ace it And I did I was curious to see what it can give me Then I had my LTS Local Training Seminar induction weekend for the new members to get to know the departments and processes and have fun and that convinced me that I do want to be there that I do want to stay there and work for it Q What was your first impression after joining A The EB Executive Board a sort of supervisory group were trying to build up the entity from scratch They were still looking for ways and it was not clear what we were supposed to be doing The hardest thing was to find my role there were too many people for some very specific tasks But as it happens eventually the people who wanted to stay stayed and the rest quit I learned then that if you are waiting and do not commit to be proactive you will not get the development you are seeking Q Can you quickly go through what roles have you had so far A As I said I joined the HR team or the Member Development Team as it was called back then We created a coaching framework from scratch that s when I learned coaching and then I decided to run for VP Vice President position I wanted to do something more It all happened in a very short time I just went for it And then I realized what the role really meant and what AIESEC really meant I think it is a bit late people should realize it even earlier preferably during LTS that it is even cooler than you thought Then after a year I ran for MCVP with success My current role is MCVP TM and OGX and I am the only member right now with two Functional Areas and with about 11 people as of now And it s not just coaching it s real work Right now OGX takes most of my time I need to mind international relations communicational channels and support the matching process and make sure of the leadership development the Eps receive It made me see a whole new dimension of the leadership development experience that we are selling In terms of TM I can see how exchange oriented it really should be This also has given me a new perspective and I m trying to boost this aspect now We are here to provide cross cultural experiences All members should be aware of what it means and everything should

our visit to the UN HQ and Global Goals Be aware that it is in Danish and tie projects together with so called SDGs or Sustainable Development Goals What do you want to solve until 2030 Even though mankind has made huge steps into improving the quality of life for everyone on the planet we all know that there are still many issues to be tackled With that in mind AIESEC now works together with the UN and governments in almost every countries in order to achieve these goals and engage the youth to contribute to the making of a better future We would all love a better future amirite The point is The Sustainable Development goals are a universal set of goals targets and indicators that the United Nations member states will be expected to use to frame their agendas and political policies over the next 15 years What goals are we talking about For example Indonesia swore to improve the quality of education while Malaysia wants to stop the excessive waste of food and Peru is creating projects regarding the climate change and its effects on the locals So no we are not only offering a 6 week vacation If you choose to embark on a journey with us you ll definitely have to get out of your comfort zone You ll feel lost while trying to communicate with the locals or depending on the location get a hotspot on your phone to check Facebook And while you re wondering in a different city gaining some cultural understanding you ll probably start understanding yourself a bit more which is in our opinion the key to Leadership Development The question that remains to be answered now is why volunteer abroad with AIESEC 1 You can travel WITH A PURPOSE
