  • CBSLife CBS Exchange Part 6: Rotterdam School of Management - CBSLife
can you live at the school I was offered to live on campus but did not choose that option because it was too expensive for me I found accommodation on my own after my arrival to the city which is considerably cheaper than what I would pay on campus It is not super close to the university 6km or the city centre ca 3 5km The other apartments I have seen e g those of my friends here are quite nice so I haven t heard anyone complain about the quality of their accommodation What courses are you taking and do you like them I am taking two courses from the Strategic Management program Strategy Process already finished and Strategy in International Business in progress now The quality of instruction compared to CBS is about the same I will be taking another two courses Entrepreneurial Start up and Management control These are from 2 different master programs On top of that I am doing the international Business Project which is a real life consultancy project spanning over the 4 months that exchange students stay here Teams are assigned a company and deal with a real life challenges of the company under the leadership of both the client the company coach and a university representative the academic coach I must say I am a bit disappointed because our client is not communicating with us properly he is based in the company HQ in London so communication is a bit more complicated for us than for the other groups who mostly have their clients in the Netherlands and can visit the company regularly However it is a very good concept and I would still recommend people to do it But be prepared it is quite a lot of work and it does not always work out the way you want What are the main differences between CBS and RSM I would say RSM is a better business school than CBS It seems to be more research based and theoretical than CBS RSM also has an actual campus that forms a distinct area with lecture halls student dorms cafeterias a sport building etc which I would say is a plus Also there is more space in the library You will always find a place As far as I know there aren t dedicated group rooms like those we have at CBS although it is fairly easy to find an empty seminar room or another place where you can do your group work The cafeterias are more expensive than at CBS and the quality is not as good The Dutch are used to having sandwiches for lunch which may be one of the reasons why their lunch offers are not so good What is the most bizarre thing that has happened so far I ended up living in the exact same room a friend of mine lived in last year without him helping me with finding it or even tipping me about it it

Marxism But the fit is much clearer than that The simple appeal that populists use everywhere is that governments have become concerned with their own goals and not the ones of opinion polls A government should make decisions based on what the majority of the nation wants at its core once again that s an ideology that most people would agree with in a moment But in recent years we have moved away from that we look to what the economists and policy experts recommend What we have ignored is how right policies can be when they contradict the will of the people Even if this is the core insight on which DF rests though it certainly isn t what comes across The policies we associate with them have much more to do with immigration and welfare But this is symptomatic of all of these groups the most extreme views get the most attention Just remember how much opinion polls underestimated DFs support in the most recent election People who are not radical but support the party are passed over So to us from the outside they look much more extreme than they really are None of this means to say that I support the policies of DF But maybe we need to extend to DF the same leeway that political scientists extend to all those other theories We have to cut through the noise to find the important issues that they can bring to the table We should look closer at whether our politicians are cutting corners by having experts advise them instead of promoting their ideas to the public We need to work to close the gap of understanding and work towards making sure that the politicians defend their value judgments against all viewpoints not just the convenient ones Share this story Facebook Twitter Pinterest LinkedIn About the Author Pierce Ricketts Pierce is a second year Bsc IBP student from canada he is handsome charming and dishwasher safe Tags copenhagen business school danish parliament dansk folkeparti df politics Previous Post Next Post Related News April 22 2016 How is Zoophilia socially acceptable April 16 2016 Is CBS ignoring the economics debate April 6 2016 Guest Article 10 Things You Didn t Know About Being A Student Worker A Response March 11 2016 The Day the CBS Screen Stood Still 1 Comment to Alright fine I acknowledge the existence of Dansk Folkeparti Manuel Erzuah March 18 2016 Reply Hello Pierce refreshing to hear someone breaks with the tradition of labelling populist parties and their voters as nazis extremist racists etc As a German citizen and voter I can for one say that most of the votes that our Dansk Folkeparti counterpart AfD gained were unsatisfied voters as well as non voters that voted out of protest this sends an unambiguous message that people feel alienated from their political representation In this much I agree with you that dialogue should definitely be sought However I find your particular choice of

more or less direct way which dictates out habits to consume Thus we develop a sense of consumption and a manner of conducting ourselves without really being aware of it When brands pay a generous sum of money to Hollywood actors or other well known people who can be seen as real opinion leaders to complete the first part of a promotion they gain the ability to keep control over the products through agents such as ONeill Therefore these young social media stars are promoting products to their mainly young and innocent followers who are absolutely unaware of the fact that they are being targeted by a company We can actually consider these thousands of followers as the democratization and the consolidation of our consumption habits Many people are brought to reiterate a behaviour which has been validated by a sufficient amount of likes that lead to a certain popularity that push people to act the same in a more or less conscious way In addition to the promotion of products brands are also pretending to apologize which is not really new for values such as a certain type of beauty in the form of thinness youth and wealth which are typical of western ideals The young and thin blondie O Neill speaks about a brainwashed generation It seems that we are not very far from it Whilst this showcase of social media is becoming essential to some people to grasp their fellows we should remember that 62 1 of the world population has no access to internet According to Nathan Jurgenson a researcher at Snapchat Identity performativity isnt new but how we do it is new Indeed this race of likes as if we were all permanently on a presidential campaign will for sure mark the era in which we live While some try to go against the tide like Essena O Neill who claimed Never again will I let a number define me The question remains still How else can we be define this era in a more relevant way than through numbers Share this story Facebook Twitter Pinterest LinkedIn About the Author Séverine Guex Séverine Guex is an exchange student coming from the french part of Switzerland Studying political science History and History of Arts which makes her particularly sensitive to contemporary art design and fashion Being in the World capital of the gastronomy makes perfect sense for a foodie and professional pizza maker Tags branding essa o neill instagram promoting Previous Post Next Post Related News April 22 2016 How is Zoophilia socially acceptable April 16 2016 Is CBS ignoring the economics debate April 6 2016 Guest Article 10 Things You Didn t Know About Being A Student Worker A Response March 15 2016 Alright fine I acknowledge the existence of Dansk Folkeparti 1 Comment to Instagram or Insta crime felicia December 9 2015 Reply Very good article We do live in an era were it is difficult to not allow the numbers define us and

  • CBSLife Fighting over Numbers - CBSLife
GDP hasn t grown nearly as much as other countries in the EU Both sides are absolutely right but it would take a masters degree to really understand how all of that makes sense Especially because most of the time that huge web of numbers is just simplified to the point of saying we have a strong economy The other side of this is that even if there were some simple universal measure of a how well the country s economy was doing it would still be difficult to get across in an election When an advertisement can only hope to keep our attention for a minute they don t have time to explain the nuance of their claims Even if they did it would be difficult to interest most voters in a long explanation of the importance of certain economic indicators Debates where most candidates are actually challenged on these issues are equally unlikely to function as a platform for proper discussion because they have at best a few minutes to explain their point What ended up happening is people talking over each other claiming that s wrong to most of what their opponent said When is the last time you saw a debate where a politician s closing statements lasted longer than a commercial break The problem is that an election especially in a country of ten parties is not a great time for explaining Parties barely have enough time to make their stances known let alone justify and explain them What that leads to is a quickly mentioned statistic normally with big numbers being used to represent the whole economy It actually incentivizes parties to twist statistics as much as possible because there isn t enough time in the campaign to properly challenge them What this does is lower the level of discourse in an election It means that whenever economic issues are covered no one really proves anything Conservatives maintain that small government is the only way to drive the economy and liberals preach the opposite But neither side ever has enough time to explain their views beyond listing a number and showing that it went up So swing voters aren t really able to make their decisions based on either side s economic track record Via Economicalpolitics net Is the answer then to not talk about it at all Should politicians just avoid economic issues and focus on their social platforms Especially in a world where we are getting better and better at putting more things into numbers Whenever they are challenged on the economy resort to brushing it aside with I don t want to get bogged down in numbers Perhaps we can do better as a society Maybe this is a chance for political commentators to actually provide some use A significant portion of election coverage is spent analyzing polls and interviewing experts on how a message was crafted This is a chance to unpack the claims and not the messages of a

  • CBSLife Three mistakes entrepreneurs make when personal branding - CBSLife
however uncomfortable it may be and ask people of their honest opinions of you where you re excelling and where you re doing not so great That way you can use the feedback to adjust your personal brand so that it reflects an image you re happy with 2 Thinking my work speaks for itself Unfortunately there are many entrepreneurs who just assume that people just understand what they re all about It may seem obvious to you and perhaps to the people who know you well but most people will either not bother to work out what you re doing and why or they ll just make up some ridiculous theory to compensate for you not giving them a clear narrative Make sure you remember to tell your own story don t leave it to others to do it for you 3 Not living out their brand Although we see from number one and two that it is crucial to fully understand your personal brand and then to to narrate it on to others it s still not enough to do just that Like Clark says It s the totality of what people perceive about you based on what they find when they Google you how you interact with them and others what kind of people you associate with what leadership roles you ve taken on the type of content you ve created the ideas you promulgate and more It takes a lot of hard work to actually live out all the perceptions you ve created consistently each and every day It might sound over the top but when people start seeing you properly live out your brand to the fullest of your abilities that s when they ll become interested and that s when you re all set for success There s a whole world full of do s and don ts when it comes to branding for entrepreneurs and luckily MarketingLab happen to be setting up an event where they ve invited three startups to give us their take on branding so we can get to know even more For more event details click on the link below See you there MarketingLab Branding for Entrepreneurs Event Share this story Facebook Twitter Pinterest LinkedIn About the Author Mihika Deb Mihika Deb is currently taking her bachelor in BA English and Organizational Communication When she s not studying she s usually happily spending her time running CBSLife chilling with friends or googling holiday images and for the most part obsessing over cats Tags entrepreneurship MarketingLab mistakes Personal Branding Previous Post Next Post Related News April 24 2016 CBS This Week Week 17 April 22 2016 How is Zoophilia socially acceptable April 17 2016 CBS This Week Week 16 April 16 2016 Is CBS ignoring the economics debate Leave a reply Cancel reply Name Email Website Comment Find us on Facebook Popular Recent Categories Does Denmark Have a Race Problem 106 Comments The 5 Worst Things About Moving to Copenhagen
