  • CBSLife Getting Hired in Copenhagen! - CBSLife
go through hundreds of resumés and one of the first things I was advised was to be extra particular about spelling and grammar At first I thought it was peculiar that is until I realized almost every resumé that was sent in had either spelling or grammar errors I think the saddest case was when an applicant had sent in their resumé but in the section about what languages they spoked they had spelled English with a c Englich instead of an s Almost everyone knows a native English speaker ask them to read through your resumé Don t know one Make sure you run your resumé through spell check Experience The most important thing in your resumé is highlighting your experience It doesn t matter if your previous job was something as simple as delivering newspapers You had responsibilities and you fulfilled them So instead of writing I delivered newspapers write something with a professional tone like I was responsible for the delivery of newspapers to 150 homes It is all about how you characterize you experience If you have a serious approach to even the simplest tasks chances are you take the same approach to any other challenge you are given Personal information In Denmark unlike other parts of the world it is quite common that you include some personal information in your resumé Such as what you like to do in your free time who you live with and where you are from Another decision is whether or not you need a picture in your resumé Personally I don t think that you need to have a picture in your resumé The employer should be looking at your qualifications not the way you look However in Denmark most employers prefer that you have a photo of yourself Length Try and keep your resumé short and to the point One page is typically sufficient but if you need more space two pages is OK Remember most companies receive a large number of applicants Of course you want yours to stand out but not because it is incredibly lengthy Cover letters Certain applications require that you write a cover letter You can have part of your cover letter written but make sure you tailor it to the job application A really unfortunate scenario would be for an employer to receive a generic letter that says Dear XX I am interested in job you are offering It is much better to address someone specifically such as Dear Mr Andersson I am interested in the marketing intern position that you are offering This shows that you have taken the time apply for that specific position You should also thoroughly read the job description beforehand and explain which specific skills you think that you can contribute and what experiences you have that make you a valid candidate for this position Tell your potential employer what specific you value you can add to their team rather than just listing everything that you are

if she just got bored Upsides Tequila shots are only 10 kr dancing after drinking tequila shots Downsides Sometimes they close early if no one else wants to drink on a Monday Hong Kong Nyhavn 7 Opening Hours 24 7 If you ve ever been a tourist in Copenhagen a bar crawl or two and you will most certainly have heard of Hong Kong It is probably the only bar in Copenhagen that is literally open 24 7 Hong Kong is the perfect example of what happens when you take an old dive bar it actually served as a dive bar for the sailors in days of old and turn it into a dive bar tourist attraction Be wary of the gamble you may take if you go to this bar You can have two types of nights there One where you see drunken Swedes that managed to find hookers and blow or one where it s just you a bartender who is much too tired to look at you and a bunch of overpriced drinks Upsides Always open Unpredictable deprived hedonism one night empty the next Downsides Tourist priced alcohol that feeling of shame that you live here and actually went to Hong Kong bar Other Attributes Occasionally has a small cover charge on weekends Most I ve seen is only 30 kr also underneath a strip club which unfortunately for patrons closes at 4 much earlier than you should be at Hong Kong Honourable Mentions Now the problem with reviewing late night bars is you can t always remember your trip to them and you can t always afford to repeat the experience So here s the list of honourable mentions that I really would like to write about but honestly I can barely remember what they look like on the inside Minibar Kostbar Gothersgade in General Opening Hours Tues Thurs 20 until people leave Fri Sat 20 5 generally closed Sun Mon Notes Gothersgade is like the cheap clubbing street keep that in mind because you ll get what you paid for Wall Street Pub Gothersgade 2 Opening Hours Mon Sat Noon 5am Sun closed Notes Many deals for different days of the week cheap enough but has never been the right amount of busy for my taste either too busy or too empty Hope you enjoy your late night parties and the waking up at 5 in the afternoon the next day recovering from it With luck you ll experience a whole new walk of shame the one you find as you ride the metro home with people in suits going to work because it s a Tuesday morning and unlike you they re actually going to be productive members of society today Just don t tell them off for not living life to the fullest because opening your mouth when you re that drunk will probably end up with you throwing up on their shoes Happy Drinking Share this story Facebook Twitter Pinterest LinkedIn About

  • CBSLife Biking Copenhagen The Danish Way - CBSLife
the way up to fancy mounted onto your frame permanent lights While biking some signs will have the word undtaget with a picture of a bike below a sign this means excluding bicycles Thus if you see a one way ensrettet sign with a undtaget sign below bicycles are allowed on both sides But remember that s just law Some places this clearly won t work Use common sense and it should be alright Bikes also are not allowed to turn through intersections If a bike wants to turn left on to a new road they must cross in one direction first and then cross in the other At busier intersections you will see many people bike halfway across and then hold up a stop hand sign This means they probably want to turn left here and are going to sit off to the side Occasionally if the lights are against you you will see people hop off their bikes and cross as a pedestrian so they can walk left and then walk across This is one of the other major upsides of bicycling Finally since bicycles are considered a viable mode of transport it is illegal to ride your bicycle drunk So if you re going out drinking consider an alternate mode of transport home or just don t drink that much before biking home Our Advice There are also several things that are strongly recommended to do even though no one will punish you for not doing them These are just some basic precautions to stop you from cracking your skull open on the road or having your bike stolen a common problem in Copenhagen While it may look ridiculous it is a good idea to wear a biking helmet They are available in a wide range of colors and shapes They range from neutral black helmets to very colorful helmets in funky shapes That said there is no law requiring a helmet in Denmark Many of the riders may simply not have grown up with it and it hasn t really been part of the culture here in Denmark Unless you come from a country where you can bike alongside major highways and not flinch start out with a helmet and see how it goes from there Another very necessary thing is to remember to lock your bike It sounds obvious but a lot of bikes are stolen every week in Copenhagen If you want to be sure that your bike is there when you return you may want to purchase a chain lock Chain locks have the obvious advantage that they can chain your bike to the bike stands Lastly it is a great idea to stick to the bike parking zones and respect no bike parking signs as you might otherwise end up having your bike picked up by the police If you are in the market to buy a bike there are several ways to go about it The easiest option is to buy

  • CBSLife Green, greener, Copenhagen: Why Danes love to “be green” - CBSLife
ve always wondered why being green is so much more popular here than anywhere else Danes not only separate trash in God knows how many different categories save water and turn off the lights but they also don t mind biking day in and day out in weather conditions that would make an Alaskan dog sledge driver shiver But what makes them willing to make these efforts Now you can blame their cultural heritage Danes are Vikings They have not only been able to survive on this ferocious piece of land but they have been thriving on it Just look at their size So a 15 minute bike ride to school does not easily throw them off So is it just that Danes are simply good law abiding citizens or is there another reason for their high commitment Well you don t need to be Einstein to know that the country is flat really flat The island of Amager for instance has been extracted from the sea and is now only a couple of meters above sea level So with global warming the ocean is slowly creeping up on their beloved Copenhagen and as much as Danes do love the sea they certainly don t want it flooding their backyard All in all Danes are doing a really great job at turning their capital into a green island by promoting renewable energy and even changing their own habits However with the water literally at their doorsteps they certainly have a higher incentive than many other nations If you had the choice between separating paper from plastic or packing up your stuff to secure yourself a spot on Frederiksberg hill you would looove to be green too Share this story Facebook Twitter Pinterest LinkedIn About the Author Silke Küstner Silke is a 3rd year BLC student Contrary to many lazy Germans in her study program she chose the language area French because she already knows what is going on in her home country Having also lived in France Canada and the Netherlands before coming to DK she enjoys hanging out with the international crowd at CBS and even gets along with all the Danes at her dorm Being a language freak she unsucessfully tried to learn Danish for 2 years before resigning to the fact that it s more of an illness rather than a language She also supports all kinds of green initiatives and likes making fun of boring finance people Tags Amager biking cbs CBS goes green city council CO2 emissions CO2 Reduction copenhagen danes denmark green recycling renewable energy sustainability urban planning windmills Previous Post Next Post Related News April 22 2016 How is Zoophilia socially acceptable April 16 2016 Is CBS ignoring the economics debate April 13 2016 Copenhagen Getaways Mini Cruise to Oslo Norway April 6 2016 Guest Article 10 Things You Didn t Know About Being A Student Worker A Response 2 Comments to Green greener Copenhagen Why Danes love to be green Chiasson November
