beautiful view while eating The breakfast buffet literally has everything you could possible want Finally there are also various tax free shops with alcohol clothes perfume etc and a Baresso There is definitely many ways to stay entertained while onboard The only negative thing that should be mentioned is that there s often lots of kids everywhere but luckily they eventually tire out Sightseeing in Oslo Oslo is a wonderful city with so many opportunities However it is also possible to enjoy the city in just one day If you wake up early you can start the sightseeing already whilst you eat breakfast onboard The entrance to Oslo is stunning and you can enjoy the sunrise and the gorgeous mountains and little suburbs along the coast while approaching the center of Oslo I recommend starting the trip with a walk to the Royal Palace You arrive early and not many places are open just yet so you can enjoy a nice quiet walk in the sun through the beautiful gardens up to palace while enjoying a hot cup of coffee on the way The palace is located on top of a hill and from here you have a nice view over the city Next you can go for a walk to Grünerløkka which is Oslo s answer to Vesterbro You will most likely walk from the Palace down the main shopping street Karl Johan Gate In Grünerløkka you will find Mathallerne the food halls which is a combination of the Paper Island and Torvehallerne in Copenhagen as well as a many nice shops and cafes From Mathallerne you can walk to Akershus Fæstning an old fortress on top of a hill where the nature and atmosphere is silent and you can look down on the entire city and the harbor You can also look down on Aker Brygge Aker Brygge is a quay full of restaurants people and live music with a great lively atmosphere where you can hang out in the afternoon Finally you can walk from Aker Brygge to the Opera which is located right next to the ship It is built in amazing architecture and you can lay down chill on the walls and roof and enjoy the sun and the view Is the MiniCruise for you Via Marie Louise The Oslo MiniCruise is the ideal trip for a short getaway to relax both body mind and soul in beautiful surroundings It is definitely affordable although Norway and Oslo is fairly pricy It is the perfect trip to see the beautiful coasts and capital of Norway it is the perfect partner getaway for a special occasion or the perfect get away from work or thesis project When I came home I felt a newfound level of relaxation It was the perfect combination of experiencing the maritime surroundings by the sea and a large Scandinavian capital full of culture More Details Website http www dfdsseaways dk minicruise til oslo to dage Facebook https www facebook com dfdsdk fref

his humorous comments and I learnt many interesting historical facts on the city that I still remember now that I always share on to my friends or family visiting It is also a great event for some down time to converse and get to know the other exchange students who are literally in the same boat as you In the Spring semester you will instead enjoy a guided tour of the Vesterbro area The tour is lead through the Meatpacking district This area which used to be the butchers place has been reconverted into an edgy neighboorhood with an excellent nightlife scene I never imagined going to this part of the city before so that was a very nice discovery Even though I really enjoyed it when we went the weather was cold dark and rainy which took away some of the fun Via Séverine Guex Movie Night This relaxing event can also be funny if dark humour is your thing They show us a Danish movie Blinkende lygter 2000 which about some bandits who are on the run but at the same time are trying to start a new life by opening a restaurant in the middle of Jutland The movie really got me in the Danish mood Eventhough I don t think the movie is the best publicity for the danish countryside I always kept it in my mind during my exploration of Denmark It also made me discover the Danish humour and helped me to have a better perception of the Danish mindset Buddy Dinner followed by the Lake Party My buddy dinners both times were very nice The first time we had dinner in the Åboulevard dorm we started dinner as a group of eight people and ended the dinner with drinking in a group of 20 before we all headed to the party together For my second dinner my buddy and his team made delicious fajitas at their place It was very hygge The Lake party is organized in a very nice white house overlooking the lakes between the Nørreport and Nørrebro areas The area has a totally unique charm which I love Although the atmosphere of the party going on inside is nice I spent most of my night outside on the terrace by the lake where many others sat with a drink in their hands just conversing Via Séverine Guex Welcome Dinner The Welcome Dinner is the last activity and the celebration of the end of the two introduction weeks The evening takes place in a club a tiny bit outside the city centre Eventhough it is still accessible by bike I still had not yet acquired the the skill to be both drunk and safe on my bike so went for the option of the bus We firstly enjoyed a buffet which was quiet tasty and also enjoyable for vegetarians and other vegans After the dinner some live perfomers played some music Eventhoug the singers were not always the most energizing people

  • CBSLife The Ethics of Blanking as a Strategy - CBSLife
i disagree with some teachers opinions on learning matters and that a teachers opinion has the same value as mine and that I should not blindly trust everything im told in the classroom Im sure you agree with this But when we have four subjects of 1000 1500 pages of reading material and four exams in four weeks I think its a good decision to blank the two in the middle leaving you with the best possible to ace all four exams And whether or not you like it workplaces only look at grades to begin with when looking at applications So I dont think it is for us to judge what strategy each student may use to maximise his potential for good grades and in the end getting the job he she wants for the rest of their life Martin Henriksen February 15 2013 Reply You can certainly argue whether having the option of blanking is optimal for an education like this but surely it has nothing do to with ethics Everyone has the same options of blanking or postponing exams so you completely misunderstood the concept Peter Maag December 11 2012 Reply Dear Pollý Your whole approach to this ethical problem seems more founded in some sort of jante lov mentality than in fairness for all students I see the possibility to structure your exams and life according to your own agenda to maximise both your learning and your value as the best possible outcome for both the individual student and somewhat for the school With regards to the individual gaining value it can be through a better grade which might serve them well in the future or for example more knowledge learned from more study time at the persons own pace although I am sure there are more reasons than this for doing it I will keep to these as the two most generally predominant The school can of course both benefit and loose from this strategy of letting students blank A benefit is that there is a higher value in for companies a student who has more knowledge than if the student had not studied extra for the blank and by extending this argument CBS also has more value in a student who is more attractive as it creative positive spin for CBS a counter argument might be that CBS has extra expenditures for blank exams but when looking at this the argument of student value for CBS rises once again as it is more valuable for CBS to produce the most knowledgeable students as this reflects positively on them from a recruitment perspective this can of course be argued back and forth in extensive papers but I shall therefore leave it here as I have no further intention of doing such a paper I see the strategy of blanking very congruent with some aspects of CBS most obviously in all the courses called anything with strategy or management as this method of blanking is a clear sign that students are applying their knowledge to gain the most out of it I agree with Sine with her regards on bureaucracy as the exams are not necessarily placed at the best possible times for students I agree with Erik in that it is of course fair as all students have the opportunity but choose not to do this with regards to your suggestions I see them as completely unfair as they will not only hit the persons you hate but also everyone else who might need to blank due to unforeseen circumstances furthermore your charge on re exams would hit all students you might say that to differentiate you could demand a doctors declaration but these vary in price from a couple of hundred to almost a thousand kroner and would cause great harm for students and pressure them into taking an exam while sick and unable I have had teachers that were not good at educating and I have banked their exams and retaken the courses with other teachers should that be punished I have blanked several times on purpose in my bachelor and I will probably blank on some exams in my masters I attended most classes all of the time and I am not a bad student I have vastly improved my knowledge by doing this and I do not regret it I do realise that all my arguments are not clearly enough explained but I shall conclude now as I am blanking an exam at the moment and have other more pressing matters to attend to Merry Christmas happy new years and lighten up Pollý Peter Maag Pollý Hilmarsdóttir December 11 2012 Reply Just to be clear I don t hate anyone The whatever it doesn t matter attitude is precisely why I chose to come off strong in this post because this is the first place I have encountered this practice and the indifference to it It s difficult that it is seen as fine and no one seems to be able to take a step back and think critically about it I get that people are relaxed about it and think it helps them get better grades and whatnot but my main goal here was to get people to talk about it and so far no one has been able to step out of their boxes and tried to see this side of the issue Everyone is so upset and busy defending their view that this isn t being discussed as much as attacked Of course some of my proposed solutions have downsides I know of a university where the retakes are only once a year and sometimes students are charged a small fee we re talking 50 kronas maybe for it But we could argue it should be inconvenient to take the retake hence do the real test well This would of course affect people who failed or were absent as well And those are proposed solutions something that would
