    Danish Language The Danish Language Danish has been a comprehensive language of culture and literature since the 19th century The development and preservation of Danish are an important part of Danish cultural policy Knowledge of English and other foreign languages is an invaluable strength for Danish society and for Denmark as a country with a national culture But for a small country like Denmark it is at the same time essential to preserve and develop the Danish language Denmark does not have any legislation as such establishing the status of the Danish language but the Ministry of Culture is responsible for the legislation on Danish orthography which lays down the rules of orthography applying to public institutions The ministry also finances a number of institutions whose task it is to contribute to the continued development of Danish language and literature Institutions The Danish Language Council is charged with the following Observing the development of the Danish language Answering questions about the Danish language and language use Determining Danish spelling and editing the official Danish orthographical dictionary Dansk Sprog og Litteraturselskab The Danish Language and Literature Society is an independent institution supported by the Ministry of Culture and charged with publishing

    and youth s encounter with art and culture Architectual policy European Capital of Culture 2017 Earlier Themes European Capital of Culture 2017 Denmark is to host the European Capital of Culture event in 2017 The Ministry of Culture is the Managing Authority in the competition to become the European Capital of Culture 2017 in Denmark This means that the Ministry of Culture is responsible for a number of the practical tasks involved in the competition to become the Danish host city for the European Capital of Culture event 2017 For example the Ministry of Culture is to define the rules for the Danish competition invite applications from interested cities appoint the Danish members of the appointments panel act as the administrative and technical secretariat for the competition arrange meetings of the panel of experts arrange visits to the applicant cities Denmark has hosted the event once before then called European City of Culture That was in 1996 when Copenhagen held the title Read more about the European Capital of Culture danish website Report recommends the city of Aarhus The independent jury delivers a report to the Ministry of Culture with the reasons for its recommendation of the city of Aarhus as the European Capital of Culture in 2017 On the basis of the report the Ministry of Culture will recommend a city as European Capital of Culture to the European institutions by the end of 2012 The Council officially designates the Danish Capital of Culture in spring 2013 The report is published on the website of both the European Commission and the Ministry of Culture Major legislation The Danish competition to become the European Capital of Culture 2017 follows the set of rules in the following documents DECISION No 1622 2006 EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL

    awful lot is individualized and measured against its visible and measurable utility value we may overlook the real nature of art and culture This is what creates cohesion sparks reflection and insight and furthermore shapes the communities that make us who we are One is shaped as a citizen and an equal participant in the community when experiencing art and in dialogue with others reflect on the experience The strategies are an attempt to raise the children to a new level Art functions in a way that affects us moves us and sparks our interest or curiosity as people Art makes us reflect and enter into dialogue about our society For this reason I believe that all children in a democracy shall have equal access to participate in that development Marianne Jelved Minister for Culture Reflection and knowledge on equal terms Children live in a variety of circumstances and with different opportunities But all children need adults who will help them be a part of communities where they will find the recognition and the sense of equality that every child needs to experience in the communities of which they are part We are not only financially rational inside our heads We are also emotional intuitive self organizing and social In a highly individualized society it is important to remember the community s significance to the individual In order to put the strategies into play a number of new initiatives and models of cooperation between e g schools daycares and cultural institutions are being put into action All with the purpose of developing and strengthening the cultural activities and encounters with art available for children and youth The initiative Culture Suitcases is an example of such initiatives aimed at children who have less access to art in their everyday life The
