  • Off-duty » Esbern Snare has been deployed for a year
    to the Mediterranean to be the flagship of the Danish led operation RECSYR last December which was intended to carry chemical weapons out of Syria In May the frigate Peter Willemoes replaced Esbern Snare after which the ship continued towards the Indian Ocean Here Esbern Snare was deployed again as the flagship of NATO s Operation Ocean Shield with a Danish led team on board as planned On September 21 after having traveled 50 000 nautical miles Esbern Snare had been deployed for a year Esbern Snare is expected to leave the operation in early December 2014 after which the ship returns to its home port of Frederikshavn with arrival before Christmas During deployment in Operation Ocean Shield in the autumn of last year Esbern Snare detained nine suspected pirates after they had tried to hijack the Danish flagged ship Torm Kansas and a Chinese merchant ship The nine suspected pirates were extradited from Esbern Snare to the authorities of Seychelles in December 2013 shortly before the Esbern Snare was ordered to the Mediterranean as the command ship for the operation RECSYR Source The Defense Maritime Denmark Front page Copyright Maritime Denmark Breaking News Special Transportation through Storebælt Last B

    Sirius depots are historical cabins and are part of the Greenland cultural legacy Ever since WW2 Sirius has patrolled the National park to enforce the Danish sovereignty Many of the cabins where Ejnar Mikkelsen has helped deploy depots can be traced back to WW2 or earlier During WW2 North East Greenland was an interesting area for both the Germans and the Allied because it was possible to gather Metrology information Sirius was established to report German activity to the Americans and make sure that the Germans would not established themselves in East Greenland The National park is also home to many hunting cabins from the 20th century Most of the cabins were built by Danish and Norwegian hunters Their primary target for them was fur from animals but the cabins were also a part of a large political agenda on sovereignty In 1993 Denmark successfully sued Norway in the international court in Haag for violation the sovereignty The crew have enjoyed the task of placing these depose all around the National parks beautiful surroundings Ejnar Mikkelsen is already looking forward to the future co operation with Sirius when the depots are running low Source Forsvaret Front page Copyright Maritime Denmark
