    on five stages around Fyn this year s edition of the race is the largest in several years This year s participants include three of the largest wooden ships three masted schooners among them Fulton In the race the vessels are divided into two classes according to size There are several foreign ships registered a Dutch ship four German ships two Swedish and one Norwegian these sailing in a class by themselves The beautiful nautical heritage forms an essential part of Denmark s sailing heritage which for Marine Conservation Foundation receives support for restoration and the Around Fyn race is a good opportunity for those interested to see the ships up close In the six ports where the ships will visit Odense Middelfart Assens Marstal Faaborg and Svendborg there are plenty of maritime experiences for the audience Each city organizes harbor party with music and local stalls Once again this year some of the ships hold open ship where visitors can tour for a small admission fee At each port there will be arranged a Fairplay competition where crews compete in noble sailor skills such as throwing with heaving line rowing in the shell of a life raft bumping up the boat tug of war etc This is always entertaining even for the audience The number of ships is a wonderful mix of union owned company owned and privately owned ships each is owned by the National Museum For many of them it is possible to buy a seat as a passenger for example through the Maritime Centre in Svendborg there are a few seats available You do not have to be a sailor or have knowledge of sailing to join There are trained people on board the ships and everyone including guests has the opportunity to get a gig
